![]() ![]() Enjoying the film experience, Hu began intense martial arts training but still found time to flex her acting muscles with a fun role on "Melrose Place" (FOX, 1992-99), which caught the eye of creator Aaron Spelling. That same year, Hu strapped on her sash again and won the Miss Hawaii USA pageant, placing fourth in the overall Miss USA Pageant.She took her first action role as an undercover cop in "No Way Back" (1995) with Russell Crowe, impressing the crew and audiences with her athleticism. Her professional momentum continued to increase, with Hu appearing in Oliver Stone's "The Doors" (1991), "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" (1991) and the bizarre "Surf Ninjas" (1993). The actress made her film debut as an ill-fated partygoer on the cruise from hell in "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan" (1989). She moved to Los Angeles and took out a full-page ad in Variety announcing her arrival, notching small roles on everything from "Night Court" (NBC, 1984-1992) to "21 Jump Street" (Fox, 1987-1990 syndicated, 1991). She became a top model in Italy and Japan and appeared in many commercials before landing her big American showbiz break, a guest-starring arc on "Growing Pains" (ABC, 1985-1992) as Kirk Cameron's Hawaiian dream girl. Not only did she win the crown, but she managed to go on to win the entire Miss Teen USA pageant, becoming its first Asian-American winner. Determined to become an actress, Hu took a modeling class to try and win a title that could serve as her entrée into Hollywood: Miss Hawaii Teen USA. As her "manager," he pitted Hu against various boys in the neighborhood in fights, earning her the reputation of a local bully. An aspiring performer since childhood, Hu took lessons in ballet, tap and acrobatics and was trained in kung fu by her older brother. She is at first sceptical of Sammo's methods but warms to Sammo's kind and caring nature and she begins martial arts training under his tutoring.Born in Honolulu, HI, Kelly Ann Hu was the daughter of Juanita and Herbert Hu, and was of Chinese, English and Hawaiian heritage. New charcters include Gretchen Egolf's character, Commander Amy Dylan, a high-flying officer who achieved her high rank at a very young age. Winship retiring, Terrell's past as a spokesman being scrapped and Lois transferring to NYPD, as well as the remaining team perhaps being relocated to the Major Crimes Unit as it is never mentioned in Season 1 they were part of the MCU. Only 3 characters remain from the original season. Arsenio Hall was bought in to replace her as a police spokesman wanting to go back to being a detective. Tammy Lauren left mid-season, her character having moved away to "live with her parents". But as yet, there has been no movement and the various actors have moved on to different projects. But before Scorpio's leader, 'The One', was arrested, he mentioned that just beacause he was finished, it didn't mean Scorpio was finished, leaving a loose end to carry on the series. Sammo was to return to China with his long-lost son for some soul searching. This was to be the last Martial Law season. This included Grace Cheng (Sammo's student, played by Kelly Hu) almost being tortured and Amy Dylan being buried alive with her fiancee. ![]() This season was much more violent as Scorpio was a much more violent anatgonist than Lee Hei. It involved a prominent terrorist group, Scorpio, and its effects on Sammo and the team. The main stroyline here wasn't unveiled until mid-season. This included dropping many of the original characters such as Lieutenant Ben Winship (the team's leader, played by Tom Wright) and Detective Louis Malone (Sammo's original partner, played by Lois Mandaylor) and the appointment of Lieutenant Terrell Parker as Sammo's new partner (played by Arsenio Hall) and Commander Amy Dylan (played by Gretchen Egolf) as the team's new lader. Season 2 was rebooted to keep audience numbers up. But intertwined with these episodes are many other stories of Sammo and the LAPD attempting to solve various crimes from murder to drug dealing. The main storyline is Sammo helping the LAPD to catch Lee Hei. The first episode focuses around the main plotline, Sammo Law (played by Sammo Hung) pursuing major criminal, Lee Hei across the globe from Hong Kong to America. One with Early Edition and one with the similarly themed Walker, Texas Ranger also starring a martial artist (Chuck Norris). It was part of two cross-over episodes (where two TV series come together). They included stage actor Tom Wright, TV actress Gretchen Egolf and comedian Arsenio Hall. It was a crime drama starring martial artist Sammo Hung and various other actors. Martial Law was a crime drama/martial arts show running from Septemto on CBS. ![]()
